i tend to run at most 3 defensive skills, Armor of Sanc, conviction and mystic regen. Now this alone coupled with wind walker armors can make me take next to 0 damage from melee foes, are you seriously telling me that you can't see the advantage of that... and as you said Prot spirit, Prot spirit + armor of sanc and you will be taking no damage.

I get this al the time in my guild and it annoys the hell outta me, "oh we don't need tactics its only PvE just take a stupid amount of damage and we'll be fine." Thats fine alot of the time but there are situations where you simply wont stand up long enough to put that damage out.

Lets take thorn wolves in HM urgoz, they come and you in quite large groups and are able to kill a caster in 2 to 3 hits if that, whats the better situation to be in a thorn wolf on every player or one player holding all the thorn wolves while everyone else makes them explode.
Now i know thats unrealistic the thorn wolves would ofc gank weakest targets in groups but either way to win a battle you have to control the battlefield and that means not letting the enemy push through to where you don't want them.

And quite frankly a dervish should be running a balanced build your a squishy frontliner based around tanking, healing with aoe magic and melee attacks that require you to be in the thick of it to be most effective, you don't have the armor to hide behind like warrirors do unless you use your skills to get it.

Sigh, again?...backline does that, you kill faster and makes the day go smoother...

Unless your monks are horrendously bad, keeping a derv (or any caster) alive with ps +soa(or Sb) is the easiest thing in the world...

Its just faster and more efficient that way..and LESS dangerous than letting the frontline take half a bar of defense and kill slower..

Quite frankly a dervish should be killing stuff..because your in a TEAM...doing everything your self means you do everything with mediocrity. ESPECIALLY when the op want a "HIGH DAMAGE OUTPUT DERV".....

Yes sigh again i don't agree with you. but i'm not gonna bother arguing you play how you like.

On the topic of high damage been playing around with Vow of strength again able to get the crit damage up to 471 which is quite nice. Shame VoS is broken.

some working high dmg builds

OgGjUxps6QaFjekbCYuFpinbvlA
OwQDQ5lOHfaeL8OAAAAAAA

thats what i've been testing out as i've post in various forms already... yes i know theres frenzy in there its just for the test to maximize dps :P.

results.
2,045 damage over 6 seconds, for an average of 340 damage per second.
Best damage in a single second was 551.
Death occured in 2 seconds.

I've been running in teams this build
OgGjUxpM7QzkjeiauFpi8FXgEFA
OwQDQ5lOHfaeL8OAAAAAAA

931 damage over 4 seconds, for an average of 232 damage per second.
Best damage in a single second was 372.
Death occured in 3 seconds.

Think i may have posted this build already but atm this seems best.

Now high dmg in PvP is another story most of my builds rely heavily on PvE skills...

Alot of the frontline/backline arguement depends on where you are and what your team build build looks like. Theres really not a right or wrong here. If your objective is to simply "tank" you might want all defense and let your backline nuke everything. But as for the op, yeah Zealous Vow still does the most damage. It still enables you to easily take Conviction or Vow of Piety w/o negative impact on damage.

Maybe one day we can get a build that actually uses Mysticism and does as much damage. If there was only a build that would enable you to spam Eremite's Attack, Mystic Sweep, and Wounding Strike, I would never complain about the Dervish again. O wait there is oneA/D_Critical_Scythe_Assassin
